State Senator Frank Wagner was upheld as chairman of the 2nd Congressional District Committee after an appeal was heard Thursday night. The vote was 7-4.
A series of events led to the appeal. The original March mass meeting resulted in Wagner’s win with 32 delegates elected to represented Virginia Beach. That was later overturned when Curtis Colgate, who had run against Wagner for chairman, was elected under questionable circumstances in a convention that was run by Colgate ally and outgoing chairman Gary Byler. Also in question was Byler’s disqualification of the College Republican representative.
