Gruber win in 7th Congressional District doesn’t bode well for Republicans

Daniel Cortez 2By Daniel Cortez

A not unexpected event occurred when Fred Gruber defeated Linwood Cobb Saturday for the 7th Congressional District Chairman. They pulled an ole Ollie North tactic — bus in your supporters to win a battle but ultimately lose the war effort that may further divide the Republican base in November.

All it demonstrates is that the tea party movement is strongest in that region. They lack the appreciation for how difficult the task is to recruit and finance viable candidates, and it will take a lot of work to undo the damage they have already done. Virginia could not win with Jamie Radtke and won’t win with Dave Brat.

Some very fine folks are part of the tea party movement and have strong principles, but most are sadly being led like sheep to another slaughter.

Meanwhile, Democrats are loving every minute of the Republican implosion … and independents, like myself and others in the minority and veteran community who control the vote, snicker. We will vote our conscience … party and tea party be damned.
