Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula on fire

WildfireBy Lynn R. Mitchell

Over 100,000 acres of wilderness land are on fire in Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. The Funny River fire was only 20 percent contained as of Sunday and growing with owners of cabins, vacation homes, and permanent residences on standby if the fire shifts direction. Residents of Anchorage were seeing intense smoke from the fire to their south.

The wildfire is the largest ever in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The previous largest was in 1969 and burned 80,000. By Sunday, the Kenai fire had grown to 130,000 acres.
