Is it time for over-the-counter birth control pills?

Doug Mantaconis at Outside the Beltway has a good post concerning birth control pills and the question of whether it’s time to make them available over the counter (see GOP Congressman Cory Gardner: Make Birth Control Available Over The Counter).

My health provider, who was female, and I had that discussion a decade ago along with the unfairness that viagra was covered by insurance but birth control pills were not. In other words, insurance companies would pay for the pills that helped make it possible for men to impregnate women but would not pay for birth control pills to help women avoid becoming pregnant….
