The Dixie Theatre in Staunton will cease showing movies after next weekend (July 24-27). However, they plan to go out with a bang offering classic movies that, as they noted in their email, may have originally been viewed at the Dixie.
The email notified of the sad news:
After five great years, we have made the difficult decision to cease our operation of the Dixie Theatre at the end of this month.
The big screen at the Dixie has been a vital part of Staunton’s arts community for a century, providing great entertainment for generations.
Though it is disappointing to close this chapter of the Dixie’s long life, we are excited about what the future may hold for this building by its owner, the Staunton Performing Arts Center. The Arts in downtown Staunton are a crucial element in the city’s economic development, and we look forward to the next chapters in the life of the Dixie Theatre.
As a “Thank You” to the community for your years of support, we invite everyone to the Dixie to enjoy a final weekend of great summer movies from the past (Thursday, July 24th – Sunday, July 27th). Tickets are now on sale at www.visulitecinemas.com!
Movies will include: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, JAWS, E.T. and BACK TO THE FUTURE. Relive some of the best summer movies on the big screen – movies you may have originally seen at the Dixie!

All news isn’t bad. The Visualite Cinema will continue in downtown Staunton showing first-run and vintage films.
