Virginia must get its neck out of the sand and take a stand for compassion when it comes to children, legal or illegal, being victimized and now ostracized by many of the state’s tea party operatives and the likes of the Corey Stewarts of Prince William County, Virginia, where some children are being housed. Others are also being detained in Augusta County where supervisors will be discussing the issue Wednesday. Yes, these victims must be returned to their home countries sooner rather than later, but hopefully a genuine knowledge of the difficult historical regarding our broken immigration system will be presented.
This Friday the Virginia Latino Advisory Board meeting will be held from 1:00 – 4:30 at the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Northern Virginia Office located at 8300 Boone Boulevard, Tysons Corner, Virginia 22182. It will be fascinating to see what kind of leadership or vacillation this group presents. It is open to the public. While the Hispanic chamber is one of many Latino activist groups and does not speak for all Hispanics in Virginia, the Advisory Board does make recommendations to the Governor. Let’s see how many of our elected leaders show up for this important meeting.
