Wednesday: Augusta County supervisors to address issue of immigrant children in Verona

By Lynn R. Mitchell

Wednesday’s Augusta County Board of Supervisors meeting at 7:00 p.m. has a full agenda, and among the items is addressing the issue of immigrant children who are being legally housed in Augusta County. The local tea party is urging its supporters to show up “in large numbers.”

The Shenandoah Valley Tea Party Patriots newsletter warned, “If we do not speak out now on this highly important issue, we lose the right to do so in the future!” It went on to say that information was being furnished to them from Prince William County supervisor Corey Stewart who “has taken on the battle of illegal aliens now for several yrs. and is now taking on the Federal Government’s placement of illegals aliens in a facility located in his county.”

As Augusta County manager Pat Coffield noted at Monday’s staff briefing, the county has a contract with the federal government for use of the local facility that runs until 2017. (For more see Immigrant children issue comes to Augusta County.)
