Hundreds of landowners turned out Monday night to attend an open house held by Dominion Virginia Resources at Fishersville’s Expoland. On hand were maps, information, and experts to talk with resident who turned out to learn more about the proposed natural gas pipeline.

Augusta County supervisors passed a resolution last week that was delivered to Dominion asking them “to submit to a mock rezoning in the county designed to minimize the impact on landowners, water supplies, schools and the county’s economic development plans.”

“We want to be at the table and give input,” said Wills, who said it is important to minimize the disruption the pipeline would bring to the county. He said he hopes the meetings with Dominion would happen after the exact pipeline route is determined. Wills said the utility agreed to take the supervisors’ request under consideration.

Dominion Virginia Power said 75 percent of landowners along the entire path of the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline have agreed to allow surveyors on their property, according to political reporter Bob Stuart with the News-Virginian (see Dominion holds pipeline open house, meets land owners):

While there has been strong resistance to the pipeline from Augusta County landowners and a grass roots group called the Augusta County Alliance, Dominion Spokesman Frank Mack said 75 percent of the landowners in the total pipeline path have agreed to being surveyed.

This is one of a number of open houses by Dominion in various locations across the Commonwealth to inform the public and address concerns by residents about the proposed pipeline.
