State Senator Emmett Hanger has not announced if he intends to seek reelection for the 24th Senate District seat that he has held since 1996 but one challenger has already announced and a second is set to make his announcement today.
Marshall Pattie, Augusta County supervisor, made it official and has been campaigning since summer.
Now, according to a press release, Augusta County resident Dan Moxley plans to announce at two campaign stops today that he plans to run for the seat. The first will be at 2:00 at Dominion Outdoors in Fishersville and the second at 5:00 at Prince Michel Winery in Madison County.
An email sent to Moxley’s daughter, who sent out the press release, asking if the businesses hosting Moxley’s announcement were in support of his candidacy, went unanswered when I received the following response from her: “Tomorrow’s event is specifically for invited supporters and invited media. Thank you for your interest in our senate campaign!”
“Invited supporters and invited media”? Interestingly, I had heard about Moxley’s planned announcement while watching WHSV TV-3’s Monday and Tuesday morning newscasts.
The brief bio included with the release noted, “Dan Moxley is an entrepreneur and small business-owner. He earned an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, and a graduate degree in Religion. Studies in history, languages, and debate spurred Dan’s interest in Constitutional principles, and incited a desire for principles statesmen to restore them. Dan has been married to his wife Jan since 1987, and they have 7 children.”
Two candidates so far … will there be three?
