A holiday tradition continues. Experience the magic of the holiday season as tens of thousands of twinkly lights illuminate the night sky along the banks of the James River in historic Downtown Richmond during their 30th Annual Grand Illumination.
The James Center Christmas tree and reindeer will be lighted along with downtown office buildings that will brighten the skyline in a festive atmosphere that includes entertainment with special appearances by Snow Bear, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Santa. Don’t miss the fun as Richmond opens the holiday season.

5:45-5:55 p.m.: VCU’s Pep Band: The Peppas will get the crowd ready for the Illumination.
5:59: Santa and Lite 98 will count down the seconds to turn on the downtown office buildings lights and James Center’s Great Tree and reindeer.
6:00: Lights on
6-7:00: Experience the magic of the holidays with two blocks of family entertainment. The Kings of Swing will be the featured performance. There will also be a visit from the Snow Bear, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir, the Varina High School Marching Band, Radio Disney, and more.
Downtown Richmond will remain lighted nightly through the holiday season.
