DT at WxRisk.com and others are putting out warnings about wintry weather heading to the East Coast this weekend. We’re talking significant snow as well as sleet and ice. The mixed bad of goodies will hit someone but let’s hope the Shenandoah Valley has only snow.
Here’s the Sunday update from DT at WxRisk.com:
MAJOR SNOWSTORM FOR NORTH TN, MUCH OF KY, ALL OF WVA , ALL SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Much of PA, eastern NY STATE.
SIGNIFICANT SNOW ( several inches) POSSIBLE FOR VA PEIDMONT, central MD, southeast PA, central and northern NEW ENGLAND.
The Euro Model consistency is well AMAZING … again the best / heaviest snow on the MODEL is over mtn areas of eastern KY … all of WVA … all of the Shenandoah from ROA to Winchester … western MD into central PA. ** THE WHITE LINE = R/S LINE… area in the BLUE to the North and west of that line= snow. Areas south and east of that Line= rain

Another thing going for this particular event is the fact that it’s a weekend storm and as history has shown many times, the vast majority — over 90% in fact — of all the big East Coast snowstorms have fallen over a weekend.
This coming weekend will be a major travel weekend for those going home for Christmas the following Thursday. A huge snowstorm will cause snarled traffic and airport delays. Grocery stores will see a double whammy with shoppers purchasing holiday food as well as supplies for the inclement weather.
We’ll be keeping an eye on upcoming weather forecasts locally with Eric Pritchett at NBC-29 and online. Stay tuned….
