As I drove home from Staunton this afternoon on this cold January day, the air was clear and the mountains beckoned. There was not time to head to the hills so I took some photos instead. Ponds are frozen after days of sub-freezing temperatures. This time of year presents a different kind of beauty when trees are bare and the lay of the land is clearly visible.
There is a peaceful about driving the back roads in the Shenandoah Valley in the quiet of the countryside.
Temperatures were around 30 when these photos were taken with high winds driving the wind chill much lower. It was cold.
Western Augusta County is full of farms and mountains and the George Washington National Forest with a less dense population than is found in the eastern part of the county.
