John Kerry diplomacy is ‘You’ve got a friend’? How about ‘Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue’?

By Lynn R. Mitchell

John Kerry took American singer-songwriter James Taylor with him to Paris to sing, “You’ve got a Friend.” After a terrorism attack. That killed 12 people. That has sparked marches with hundreds of thousands of people. That brought 10 world leaders to Paris. That has polarized Europe.

I had to let it sink in Friday when I heard it. I really like James Taylor. But “You’ve Got a Friend”? Really, Mr. Kerry?

When terrorism hit our shores on 9/11, one of the anthems at the time was sung by country music singer-songwriter Toby Keith. Called “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,” the chorus went like this:

Hey, Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list,
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist.
And the eagle will fly and it’s gonna be hell,
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell.
And it’ll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you.
Ah, brought to you, courtesy of the red, white and blue.

That’s the response to terrorism.

If you think the French liked the touchy-feely John Kerry-James Taylor response, read this Facebook comment:

I am French. Please let me inform you of a couple of things. In addition to this farce of dragging JT to sing “You’ve got a Friend”, Kerry said that he came to France to give a “big hug” to the people of France. So, to Mr. Kerry, here is a heads up:

1) French people are not into the whole “Warm Fuzzies” thing. We do not “hug” (except our kids), it is not in our culture. This whole farce was awkward, icky and generally made us uncomfortable. If you don’t believe me, look at the photos of Kerry embracing our President. Holland had a horrified, glazed-over look in his eyes that says it all.

2) We do not need “group hugs” and “campfire songs”. We need strong global partners who are not afraid to take a strong stand with us in fighting radical islamic terrorism. It is sad (and disillusioning) to see that THIS is the “leader of the free-world’s” response to the terror that filled the Streets of Paris. I hope that when the next wave of terror happens on your on soil you will understand when we send a few French mimes to perform for you.

Doesn’t sound as if it went over too well. Not only are we leading from behind, now we’re leading from behind with a warbling Pied Piper. Wake me up when real leadership is back in the White House.

American Girls and American Guys
We’ll always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There’s a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our headMy daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue.
