Hearing the issues now being tackled by Congress reminded of a gathering of supporters from Augusta, Rockingham, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Harrisonburg held for Congressman Bob Goodlatte earlier this month in Weyers Cave. While there, the congressman was able to address the crowd of about 60 donors and supporters and expand on the wide array of discussions and issues that are occurring in Congress. With the animosity that is prevalent these days in politics, it was good to hear the update.
The views looking across the Shenandoah Valley to the Blue Ridge Mountains were stunning after a day of thunderstorms that cleared just in time for the meet-and-greet. Former Augusta County Republican Committee Chairman Kurt Michael and I joined fellow Republicans who enjoyed food and drink around the pool and contributed to the lively conversations with long-time friends, elected officials, and candidates for fall offices.
Candidates for upcoming offices included Augusta County supervisor candidates Terry Kelley and Chris Morrison, Commonwealth’s Attorney candidate Tim Martin, sheriff candidate Derek Armentrout, and local electeds. Others included local business owners Craig and Sherri Smith, Tom Kelley, former Page County Republican Committee chairman Jonathan Comer, Charlie Obaugh, Walter Curt, and too many more to remember.
