‘YMCA’ wows ‘America’s Got Talent’

When I saw this act last week on “America’s Got Talent,” I loved it from the first musical note for several reasons.

First, the song is “YMCA” by the Village People — what’s not to like? It was popular song to dance to at Katy O’Leary’s in RVA, the disco age, but today’s generation knows it from weddings. What’s the last wedding you attended where the DJ didn’t play “YMCA”?

Second, there’s puppet-master Christopher. His expressions and dry wit — those eyes!

Third … was this act fun, or what? Everyone got into it with the music, and the way the show built it up with the “All By Myself” schtick.

You have to watch all seven minutes — all the way to the very last second — to fully appreciate not only the performer but the music. I promise … you will have a smile on your face at the end.
