10th Congressional District votes primary for Comstock

Barbara Comstock 6By Lynn R. Mitchell

Good news out of the 10th Congressional District for first term representative Republican Barbara Comstock who saw the committee vote for a primary. From Brian Schoeneman’s Facebook page:

Very pleased to see that the 10th District Congressional Committee voted in favor of a state-run Primary for Congresswoman Barbara Comstock‘s reelection bid next year. It was a tight vote 8-8 and broken by Chair Jo Thoburn’s tie breaking vote, but we owe the 10th CD committee thanks. And hopefully she will have no competition and we won’t have to worry about a primary at all. Looking forward to being able to cast my vote for her next year.

Comstock, Brat districts like apples and oranges

Barbara Comstock 3By Lynn R. Mitchell

Conservative talk show host Mark Levin has come out with his “Liberty Scores” on two members of Virginia’s congressional delegation (don’t bother to click on the links unless you want to sign up for the publication to see how he ranked candidates).

Interestingly, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, the only woman in the Virginia delegation, is under attack from not only Levin but others on the right after taking office in January and already being threatened with a primary opponent.

Why?

Comstock attacks are over the top

Matt Colt HallBy Matt Colt Hall
Guest Post

As a young Republican, I have felt frustration while watching the Virginia Republican Party move farther to the right. That would be fine except we have completely thrown tactics and the ability to govern out the window.

Sadly, the Libertarian-tea party blog of Northern Virginia known as the Bull Elephant continues to demonize rational Republicans almost every day but on Tuesday they reached a whole new level of hatred and vitriol. Their columnist Jeanine Martin wrote a piece entitled, “Barbara Comstock votes with Democrats to fund DHS through August.” I don’t want to give Ms. Martin’s post the publicity it so desperately wants but one section was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. It read:

“If Comstock continues down the path of voting with democrats, and cozying up to Eric Cantor and John Boehner, Republicans in the 10th district will be able to choose her replacement in a convention in 2016.”

As my hero and the greatest president once said, “There you go again.”

Comstock’s yes vote on DHS protects borders, air travel, ports

Barbara Comstock 3By Lynn R. Mitchell

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-10th) voted for the Department of Homeland Security funding bill, along with the majority, to see it pass in the U.S. House on Tuesday. Concerns about national security prompted her vote, as she explained in a press release afterward:

“President Obama’s misguided foreign policy that rewards our enemies and slights our allies has created an unstable world. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reminded all of us of that today in the House.  I voted today to fund the Department of Homeland Security because we must continue to protect our borders, air travel, and ports with the dedicated employees that work tirelessly each and every day to keep America safe in this dangerous world.

“I fundamentally disagree with President Obama’s constitutional overreach on immigration.  This bill contains no funding to carry out the unilateral actions by President Obama on immigration. [emphasis added]

Barbara Comstock to be sworn in Tuesday … only woman in Virginia Congressional delegation

Barbara Comstock 3By Lynn R. Mitchell

New 10th District Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) will be sworn in Tuesday for the 114th Congress and is holding an Open House reception for those attending.

This former member of the Virginia House of Delegates will represent not only her district but the Commonwealth and, in a delegation that is made up of all men, it is nice to see a woman take her place among the Virginia representatives. I couldn’t vote for her but certainly was in support of her (see First time I met the gracious, hard-working Barbara Comstock).

First time I met the gracious, hard-working Barbara Comstock

Barbara Comstock 1By Lynn R. Mitchell

I remember very clearly the first time I met Barbara Comstock who is running as the Republican candidate for the 10th Congressional seat that is being vacated with the retirement of Congressman Frank Wolf.

It was 2009 and hundreds of Republicans from all over the Commonwealth were in Williamsburg for the GOP Advance. A number of us were at an event at the Williamsburg Inn and standing in line for the Friday night buffet. She was behind me and we began talking — exchange of names, where in Virginia we were from, that kind of thing.

??????????By Lynn R. Mitchell

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be in Virginia September 30 to campaign on behalf of 10th Congressional District candidate Barbara Comstock just a month before the election.

Governor Romney, who ran as a GOP presidential candidate in 2008 and as the GOP nominee in 2012, has been hitting the campaign trail nationwide backing and supporting Republican candidates. Continue reading

Barbara Comstock wins GOP nomination for 10th Congressional District – UPDATED

Barbara Comstock 1By Lynn R. Mitchell

Delegate Barbara Comstock easily won her Republican Firehouse Primary today in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, with reports saying she took 60 percent of the vote. She was vying for the open seat of retiring Congressman Frank Wolfe, and beat out her two Republican opponents Delegate Bob Marshall and Howie Lind. Ms. Comstock was considered the strongest contender because of her fundraising advantage and the swell of support behind her. In a district was went for Mitt Romney by just one point in 2012, the GOP needs all the fire power they can get to hold onto that seat. Dems badly want it.

U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor posted on Facebook, “Congratulations to a great friend Barbara Comstock on your victory in today’s election! On to November!”
