Sheriff Mike Wade turns in decisive win in 4th District GOP primary

Mike Wade 1It was a decisive win. At the end of the day when votes were counted and the results were known, Henrico Sheriff Mike Wade had won the Republican nomination in the 4th Congressional District. (See Henrico Sheriff Mike Wade’s strong, optimistic leadership needed for the 4th District.)

Results from the State Board of Elections of 259 precincts of 259 (100.00%) reporting:

Candidate Votes Percent
Michael L. “Mike” Wade
4,988 64.17%
Jackee K. Gonzalez
2,785 35.83%

On the Democratic side of the aisle State Senator Donald McEachin won the nomination, setting up the contest between Wade and McEachin.

The 4th District has redrawn boundaries after the 2016 court-ordered redistricting, and now includes Charles City County, Henrico, Richmond City, Chesapeake City, Chesterfield County, Dinwiddie County, Colonial Heights, Petersburg, Emporia, Greensville County, Hopewell, Prince George County, Southampton County, Surry County, Sussex County, and Suffolk.

As a result of the new boundaries in the 4th, the coming months will see a hard-fought battle between Republican Wade and Democrat McEachin for the general election which will take place on November 8, 2016.

It is a good picture of the two Republican lieutenant governors overlooking the proceedings.
