After all the rain, I didn’t think we would get to see tonight’s historic Christmas full moon. But we got a glimpse as it rose above the mountains before disappearing into the clouds, the first full moon on Christmas Eve/Day since 1977. It is an event that won’t happen again until 2034.
And then it was gone into the clouds….
Merry Christmas!

Thursday I traveled to Lexington and Rockbridge and back to Augusta before heading to Waynesboro. The rural beauty of mountains and Shenandoah Valley never cease to amaze me in this part of Virginia. With dark clouds hanging low, I ran through several rain showers. This picture was in Rockbridge looking toward the Blue Ridge Mountains.

While walking this evening I watched the full October moon rise from behind the ridge in the back of our house so hurried home for my camera and snapped this photo while the orange-colored moon was still behind the trees. This morning I took photos of the lunar eclipse that resulted in the “blood” moon which turned red. Quite a show today, both morning and night. (See Viewing the ‘blood moon’ eclipse in Shenandoah Valley and Up early to watch lunar eclipse of ‘blood’ moon).
