This week presidential candidate Jeb Bush’s Texas campaign committee was revealed with many prominent names in Texas circles including Joe Straus, Texas House Speaker; Kay Granger, U.S. House of Representatives; Pete Sessions, U.S. House of Representatives; and George P. Bush, Jeb’s son and Texas Land Commissioner. It also included Javaid Anwar, Midland oilman; Ross Perot Jr., Dallas developer; T. Boone Pickens, energy tycoon; John Carona, former state senator; Florence Shapiro, former state senator; Dan Branch, former state representative; Bob Seuell, former state senator; and Kevin Eltife, state senator.

2016: Eric Cantor, John Hager, Kay James endorse Jeb Bush … will head up Virginia campaign

In a move that excited many Virginia Republicans on Thursday night, former Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor joined the Jeb Bush for President team and endorsed the former Florida governor  (see Cantor endorses Bush at Richmond fundraiser and on Twitter). Also endorsing Governor Bush were former Virginia Lieutenant Governor John Hager and former Secretary of Health and Human Resources Kay James. Bush has tapped Cantor, Hager, and James, a diverse group of Virginians, to be his co-chairs for the Virginia campaign.

2016: Jeb … or Mitt?

I have not written before now about Mitt Romney’s comments Friday when he told a group of donors that he is still considering entering the 2016 presidential race (see Romney to GOP donors: ‘I want to be President’).

Quite frankly, it was surprising. For months I had listened, hoping to hear that Mitt would get into the 2016 campaign but hearing his continued denials over and over and over and over. I was fully supportive of him in 2008 and 2012, even served on his Virginia Steering Committee in 2012, and enthusiastically attended the pre-election rally held at Fishersville’s Expoland in 2012 that brought out 10,000 supporters and also featured VP candidate Congressman Paul Ryan, Romney Virginia Chair Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling and former Virginia First Lady Susan Allen.
