Hannah Graham location of remains

Many were touched by Hannah Graham’s disappearance. Some knew her. Others knew someone who knew her — that is my connection through my first-year UVa student niece who had known Hannah since attending French Academy with her at Washington and Lee University in 2012. Many had children and felt the anguish Hannah’s parents were going through. The community closed ranks, embracing the family, and worked together in a way that is not often seen. Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo never let go of his tenacity nor his promise to Hannah’s parents to find her, and with the help of thousands of volunteers, he was able to keep that promise although, sadly, not in the way he would have liked.

Many reporters and some bloggers have followed along but one who has stood out because of the information he was able to provide that wasn’t necessarily found in the regular news feeds was Coy Barefoot, a Charlottesville resident who wears many hats including writer, history professor at UVa, radio personality, and more. But most importantly, as seen in his words below, he wears the “Dad” hat.

Surveillance cameras in Charlottesville: Good point

By Lynn R. Mitchell

Police Chief Tim Longo’s call for surveillance cameras in downtown Charlottesville is amplified by letter writer Floyd Hurt in today’s Daily Progress (see Listen to calls for security cameras):

In the midst of the turmoil and investigation surrounding the Hannah Graham abduction, we must not overlook one very important factor: Chief Longo has asked the City Council time and again for cameras to be installed on the Downtown Mall. To no avail.

Jesse Matthew arrested in Galveston, TX, in case of missing UVa student Hannah Graham – Updated

Hannah Graham UVa missing girl 1By Lynn R. Mitchell

I was on the phone with my Texas sister last night who was in Houston, about an hour from Galveston. I had texted that Jesse Matthew, 32, had been captured in Galveston, a location that was surprising to most and something I knew she would be interested in hearing. She had kept up on the case of missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, 18, from her home in Austin. A former newspaper journalist, my sister started finding more details through the local media and passed it along.

Charlotteville Chief Longo: Looking for info about male seen with Hannah Graham

Hannah Graham UVa missing girl 1By Lynn R. Mitchell

Chief Tim Longo of the Charlottesville Police Department became emotional during the 5:00 news conference Friday afternoon and pleaded for everyone to search their minds to remember anything from the night Hannah Graham disappeared.

Police have surveillance video of a black male, about 32 years old, 6’2″, 270 pounds, with dreadlocks following Hannah on the street that night, then putting his arm around her waist, and they entered the Tempo Restaurant together, stayed about 15 minutes, then left in his car. They are asking for additional information from witnesses about his interaction with Hannah.

Hannah is 18 and was reported missing on Sunday when friends and family realized they hadn’t seen or heard from her since late Friday night/wee hours of Saturday morning. Police are asking anyone who remembers anything to please call the tip line.  A $50,000 is being offered for information about the cause of her disappearance.

If you have information please call the tip hotline at 434.295-3851.

NBC-29 in Charlottesville is doing an excellent job of updating on this case as information becomes available. They have a timeline of Hannah’s whereabouts leading up to her disappearance as well as archives of all articles written about this case since it broke earlier this week.
