Daniel Cortez sings National Anthem at Redskins Stadium

Daniel Cortez 10

By Lynn R. Mitchell

It was a first for LynnRMitchell.com when contributor Daniel Cortez appeared on national television and in front of 80,000 spectators to sing the National Anthem. Standing by his side was his son, Senior Airman Daniel P. Cortez II. Often these things are not televised but Fox NFL Sunday showed it so I was able to snag a few photos from the television. Congratulations, Daniel — that is a tough song to tackle especially in front of so many people. See Daniel’s post about this special honor (see National Anthem heals at Redskins stadium).

Compassionate words and deeds define new conservative leadership

Daniel Cortez 2By Daniel P. Cortez

The indefatigable Susan Allen, former First Lady of Virginia, co-hosted an open-to-the-public function this past weekend in Northern Virginia to benefit “Our Military Kids.”  It was a huge success to raise money benefiting our wounded soldiers and, specifically, the children of veterans whose parents face the financial difficulty of being deployed.

I was proud to be a co-sponsor, being a Vietnam veteran and having a military kid myself.  Recently-elected Congresswoman Barbara Comstock was also present to provide her support.

Another gallant cause by the extended Allen family.  And it was a family event as by her side was husband George, the enormously popular former Virginia Governor and U.S. Senator.  And it didn’t hurt to have support of his brother Bruce, president of our beloved Washington Redskins.

Gillespie runs ad during Monday Night Football, suggests jobs, economy more important than Reid’s bill to change Redskins name

By Lynn R. Mitchell

Boom. The Gillespie for U.S. Senate campaign ran a great ad during Monday night’s football game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.

In a smack-down to Senator Mark Warner’s rubber-stamping of  almost 100% of the Democratic agenda, it pointed out Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bill to force the Redskins to change the name of their team, and Senator Warner’s refusal when twice asked to say whether he supports the bill or not.

Ben Tribbett, Redskins part company

Ben Tribbett 1By Lynn R. Mitchell

Virginia liberal blogger Ben Tribbett’s name is a little like Monica Lewinsky’s: both will forever be connected to politicians. Perhaps that’s why eyebrows were raised when Ben was hired by the Washington Redskins two weeks ago to run their online PR operation in the quest to keep their embattled team name.

Washington Redskins respond to Harry Reid, set record straight

By Lynn R. Mitchell

On Friday afternoon Bruce Allen, president of the Washington Redskins football team, sent a latter to Harry Reid in response to Reid’s latest call on Thursday for the Redskins to change their name. The letter basically said “butt out” and made the case for why the Redskins should keep the name (see Letter from President Bruce Allen).

Reid was one of 50 Democratic senators who signed the letter because, as we all know, the country is perking along just fine and we have no financial issues, economic distress, or questions about Benghazi and the deaths of Americans. No, it’s more important for Harry Reid et al to spend their time and concern themselves with meddling in a private business and worry about the name of a football team. The term MYOB comes to mind. Or maybe, “Get back to work.”
